Deb and Bob Saunders both grew up in Barrington, home of The Daily Scoop's original retail shop and manufacturing facility. Barrington is the quintessential, small New England coastal town which prides itself on its charm, friendly neighborhoods and great schools.

Bob was twelve when he took his first job sweeping floors at the local gas station for $1.00 an hour. He worked a lot and bought his own gas station in 1980 when he was just twenty years old. Two gas stations later, Bob and his brother Bert were forced out of the gas station business by the 'big, bad oil company.' Bob's dilemma . . . what to do next.

In 1980 when Bob was buying his first gas station Deb was ten years old and attending Barrington Elementary School (she loves to remind Bob that she's much younger than he is), dreaming about becoming a lawyer. Deb never faltered on her dream, even after meeting Bob in 1990.

After meeting, Deb and Bob quickly realized they shared a common obsession . . . ice cream.   Not just any ice cream (store bought mass produced ice cream was acceptable, however, only in emergencies to avoid starvation), really good ice cream. While on summer vacations across New England, when everyone else was feasting on lobsters and beer, Deb and Bob were hunting down the local homemade ice cream shop. They inevitably returned home saddened by the cruel reality that was life in Barrington and beyond . . . no really good homemade ice cream.

So, in 1999 when Bob pondered what to do next, Deb gave him the answer after a resounding 'duh!'   "Let's learn how to make really good ice cream so we can eat it all the time."   Bob (the practical one in the relationship) had a better idea, "after we learn how to make the best ice cream possible, let's build a really neat ice cream shop, staff it with friendly local kids, and share it with everyone."

And that was that.
